Beaver Creek

90 locks and 30 dams. a quick peek of the past.

Its beauty is better than reading the book.

We were surprised when we get here and saw a brief history of the park. And when we started our hike, it's even getting more lifelike feels as we saw those locks and dams.

Locks

Once upon a time, they were locks and dams in the 73-mile Sandy and Beaver Canal. We were mesmerized seeing how most of the locks are still in-tack that you could imagine how beautiful it'll look if it's still operating.

Also, during 1830's getting powered from the little beaver creek, Gaston's Mill was built within the park. And it has stopped around 1920's. The mill was purchased by the State of Ohio and created Beaver Creek State Park. In 1970's it has been restored and still in use today grinding wheat flour, corn meal and buckwheat on a seasonal basis. How cool is that?!

Unfortunately, the mill was closed when we were there. So, we did not get to see the mill.

Beautifully taken care

The park is well maintained. From the parking lot to picnic area, to camp site and trails. The park has about 6 hiking trails and 5 biking trails which hiking is also allowed). We took, Lower Vondergreen Trail, it's about 3.25 miles hike each way and about 800 ft elevation.

The trail is well marked. Lower section is alongside of the creek, so there'll be times if the water is high, trail could be flooded. So, you can take the upper and the trail will merge after a mile hike.

Something to go back to

State of Ohio definitely has a lot of beautiful trails and history. It's probably one of the most beautiful hike we did up to date. We'd love to go back and try the Little Beaver Creek Greenway trail, which is in the south of Lisbon.

Do you have a place that you always love to go back to and explore it more? We have the same feelings for Ohio.
